TUNISIE
AKACHA
Contemporary Tunisian artist Mohamed Akacha was born in Ariana, Greater Tunis, where he grew up in an environment whose narratives, colors, and contrasts nourished his imagination from a very early age. Drawing quickly emerged as an intimate language and a space of freedom, laying the initial foundations for an artistic practice deeply rooted in the observation of the world around him.
Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Tunis and later at the Accademia di Belle Arti in L'Aquila, Italy, Mohamed Akacha has developed a singular visual language where abstraction, narrative figuration, and the energy inherited from urban culture intersect. His work, woven with questions of identity, exile, social inequalities, and contemporary fractures, is distinguished by a profoundly humanist approach, creating a dialogue between individual memory and collective consciousness. A residency in the United States between 2016 and 2017 marked a decisive milestone in the evolution of his practice, opening his work to new influences and greater formal freedom. Alongside his pictorial research, the artist has developed numerous limited-edition collaborations, combining art and craftsmanship with particular attention paid to materials and techniques.
Present on the international scene for over a decade, Mohamed Akacha has participated in several major events and art fairs, notably Art Basel Miami, progressively affirming his place among the prominent figures of contemporary Tunisian creation. Based between Tunis and Paris, he currently pursues a path of permanent reinvention, exploring new mediums and continually enriching his artistic vocabulary. His most recent solo exhibition, held in 2025 in Paris at Sidi Blue, confirmed the singularity of a body of work where the power of gesture, chromatic richness, and the universal scope of the themes addressed invite a sensitive reflection on our times. Between instinctive energy and visual poetry, Mohamed Akacha's work is part of a constant quest for meaning, making painting a space of dialogue between the intimate and the universal.
