FKDL
Born in Paris in 1963, Franck Duval — known as FKDL — is a French contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in urban art. From early on, he was drawn to the power of visual imagery, developing a body of work shaped by the worlds of fashion illustration, circus arts, and cinema — fields he has also explored firsthand.
FKDL works across collage, painting, and drawing, moving between brush and paper with equal ease. Vintage iconography gives his compositions a sense of depth and accumulated meaning, while bold colors, geometric patterns, and the tension between abstraction and figuration define his visual identity. The female figure is a constant presence in his work — not incidentally, but as a deliberate and proud feminist statement, a way of claiming space for women in the public realm.
FKDL has shown his work widely, in galleries and institutions across France and beyond, while maintaining a parallel practice in the street — murals and public installations that bring his visual world directly into urban life. What distinguishes his work is its ability to move freely between contemporary art and street art, dissolving the boundary between the two, and producing pieces that are at once visually striking, culturally layered, and genuinely resonant.
