HUSH
HUSH is a British contemporary artist born in Newcastle upon Tyne and now based in Northern Ireland. Emerging from the underground art and music scenes of the 1990s, his work fuses the energy of the street with the refinement of contemporary painting. Blending graffiti, graphic design, fashion, and classical portraiture, he creates richly layered compositions that dissolve the boundaries between fine art and the visual language of the street.
Working through layers of paint, mark-making, stencil, and abstraction, HUSH explores themes of beauty, identity, and modern culture. His female figures appear and disappear beneath veils of gesture and erasure, occupying a space somewhere between memory and myth. The work embraces the contradictions of elegance and destruction, control and instinct, permanence and decay.
Built through a process of layering, obscuring, and revealing, HUSH's paintings echo the surfaces of urban walls - painted over, weathered, and rewritten. Within this tension between permanence and impermanence, he explores the ways in which beauty, identity, and modern culture are continually constructed, dismantled, and reimagined.
Originally trained in illustration and graphic design, HUSH spent several years living and working in Asia before establishing an international studio practice. Today, his paintings, murals, sculptures, and installations have been exhibited in cities including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, London, Basel, Berlin, Paris, and San Francisco
