NICOLAS PANAYOTOU
Nicolas Panayotou lives and works in Paris. For over twenty-five years, he has been developing a body of work situated within the field of optical and kinetic art, exploring the mechanisms of visual perception and the representation of movement in space.
Trained in art history and visual arts, he creates his works entirely by hand, even though they evoke a digital and technological aesthetic. This approach, which he calls the "digital hand," combines artisanal mastery with visual precision.
His compositions rely on repetitive patterns, lines, bands, and colored grids that produce effects of optical illusion, vibration, and movement. Through chromatic gradients and complex geometric structures, he creates immersive and hypnotic spaces that actively engage the viewer's gaze.
In keeping with the tradition of optical art, his work offers a contemporary reading of painting, establishing a dialogue between the materiality of the gesture and the perceptual experience, where the visible becomes both a sensory and a mental experience.
